"Police in the Apennines": a new series based on crime and comedy

Claudia Bisia's novel will debut tonight on Rai 1: an "atypical" detective story set in the peaks of Emilia-Romagna.

Tonight on Roy 1 will start a new TV series with Claudio Bizio in the lead role, with an interesting title for fans: "Apennine Policeman".Created by Fabio Bonifacci and produced by Picomedia in association with Rye Fiction, the series promises to be a detective story sui generis, setting an investigative plot in an unusual setting. No bustling metropolis, no cold lights of city police stations, no Italian-style CSI: the setting in which the story is set is the wild beauty of the hinterland of the Apennines.

"Police of the Apennines" an unusual detective story

On Rail 1 in the first four episodes starting today, "Uno sbirro e Appennino" sees Renato De Maria as director and actor and artist Claudio Bisio as referee and commissioner Vasco Benassi. The "atypical and pop" commissioner, as De Maria describes him, saying that he used the "charisma and wisdom of doing" Bisio to create an investigative film "in our way, it has been contaminated by comedy, heart, and the strangeness of the family that really surprised the Italian audience. All of it is focused on the unique land of the Emilian cinema.

The main character is Vasco Benassi, a cunning and impulsive commissioner who, after a professional mistake in Bologna, is "exiled" as punishment to his native village of Muntago, an imaginary town in Emilia-Romagna.This forced return forces him to deal with a painful past and unresolved wounds.Muntago is not only a backdrop for events, it carries a strong symbolic charge. As stated in the official press release of Rai, the series focuses on the territory that is still unknown from a cinematic and television point of view, presenting the entire Apennines with its beauty, traditions and the problem of depopulation.

Around the charisma of Bisio - whom the director defines as a sympathetic, sincere and slightly crazy actor - revolves a team of deeply human characters, each a mirror of the lights and shadows of provincial life.Nicole, played by Valentina Lodovini: the newly elected mayor of Bologna, originally from the town and Vasco's old flame, is a strong but vulnerable woman, with a political commitment and Caught between concerns for her son, "the magician" (Lorenzo Mintello). The latter is a young idealist who dreams of a sustainable Apennines, but whose secrets often lead him on a collision course with the law and Amaranta.Played by Chiara Celotto, Amaranta is a young Neapolitan policewoman with an uncontrollable "tigna" who is the "soul feeder" for Benassi.will become a type of picky daughter that is still being analyzed.

In the police station, there is also the figure of Gaetana (Elisa D'Eusanio), Vasco's cousin and pragmatic inspector who is able to offer the commissioner the warmth of her roots without sparing him criticism. Her husband Bruno (Ivan Zerbinati), a bar manager, discreetly observes the mood of society, while her son Macchio (Jacopo Dei), a sensitive teenager searching for his place in the world, shares a complex passion for Amaranta with his friend Magiko.Inspector Benassi's team is completed by Fosco (Michel Savoy), a shy but dedicated young policeman who has decided to follow him to the Apennines.

In his text director Renato De Maria points out the "police" of Benassi and the Apennines as the two main characters of the series, which he tried to respect equally. The quiet nature, the Apennines, "is a land rich in history and miraculously [...], where only the forests, lakes, rivers and columns of the sky touching the sky can run to infinity. The small villages nestle in the valleys, neverbreak the perspective, everything is in the harmony of nature. The realization of the purpose of creating the curves of the warm visual colors of the great landscape "capable of capturing the history of the faces and the land in one picture".

The words arouse curiosity, suggesting that, despite the plot divided between crimes and emotions, the series can be an opportunity to discover the corners of Italy that are hidden from many people. Thanks to the support of the Emilia-Romagna Region, the viewer is accompanied by peaks and valleys that preserve traditional traditions, offering an unusual view of a corner of Italy that until now has not been noticed from the cinema.

The date with the first of the four episodes is tonight at 9:25 pm on Rai 1. If you prefer to stream, the first two episodes are now available in preview on RaiPlay.
