Turtle Beach Rematch the lenticular controller review for Nintendo Switch -

A wireless controller for Nintendo Switch 1 and 2 decorated with a lenticular print that pays tribute to the most important characters of the Japanese company: this is Turtle Beach Rematch.

Turtle Beach Rematch combines the playful nature of children's toys with a truly unique aesthetic, and is also fully compatible (except for the C button) with the Nintendo Switch 2, with wireless connectivity and some pro-control features that significantly enrich the technical characteristics of the device made for the Nintendo Switch. The rematch is produced in four variants.Kong, choosing shades of green and black to represent the charm of the forest as DK and Didi chase each other.

Technical features of Turtle Beach Rematch

As mentioned at the beginning, Turtle Beach Rematch is a wireless controller made under the official license of Nintendo, suitable for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, although in the latter case you must understand the lack of the C button to quickly activate GameChat, which can still be found on the home screen.

Like the Joy-Cons, connecting to the console is very quick, and assigning commands to the back buttons built into the grip is just as easy.Simply press and hold the function button, press the desired back button, wait for the LED to start blinking, then press the button you want to "clone".

The wireless connection of Rematch works from a distance of nine meters, but above all the battery of the controller is amazing, because the battery life reaches forty hours after a full charge, which must be done using the supplied USB-C cable. The gamepad also features a gyroscope for games that use this type of motion detection.

Unfortunately, there are some mistakes and options that leave you a little stunned: in the first case it is the absence of any kind of vibration, in the second case in the extension +, -, Home and Capture buttons, very different compared to the official devices and therefore difficult to press quickly until you get used to the new extension.

Design and ergonomics

The two versions of Turtle Beach Rematch we've tested differ in their unique aesthetics provided by lenticular printing, but the Mario Bros. version is undeniably the best, liveliest, and most interesting in terms of exposure: depending on the angle, the controller displays a brick wall or a Super Mario Bros. image.

From this perspective, Donkey Kong's dedicated gamepad looks less attractive, both in terms of the tones used and the effects of transitions, which here are limited to making certain elements of vegetation appear or disappear in the background. But those who usually prefer green to red will probably definitely like it.

However, when we come to the topic of ergonomics. The problem is actually a bit more complicated. If the front decoration gives the feeling of a quality product, the back of the controller and buttons give you the feeling of clearly "plastic", with a rough finish that looks like a child's toy, the desired effect?

Fortunately, the shapes of the device prove to be comfortable and "familiar", and since they are not heavy, they provide good ergonomics even during long gaming sessions, but even here the layout of the functional keys presents a clear obstacle until you get used to it.

This also works on PC

Although not mentioned on the packaging, in fact Turtle Beach Rematch also works on PC in wired mode. However, it is necessary to use the Steam option to disable the buttons, since the device is not officially supported and therefore does not have its own settings.

Turtle Beach Rematch's features undoubtedly make it a great controller for competitive online experiences like Fortnite, with additional programmable buttons and of course instant triggers that, for better or worse, characterize both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

The single-player experience is obviously great too, and we did our best with some Nintendo exclusives during testing, as well as the Switch 2's excellent ports of Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption, and Hogwarts Legacy. The responsiveness and elasticity of the analog sticks seem to be excellent, it's a shame that Hall effect technology hasn't been implemented yet to improve their accuracy and durability.

The Turtle Beach Rematch is probably the best third-party controller for the Nintendo Switch 1 and 2 that can be given to kids, due to its ability to combine super lenticular prints (especially the Mario Bricks model) with undeniable features, from programmable back buttons to excellent battery life.Of course, adult players may find some finishes a little too "plastic", while the "alternative" layout of the function buttons will not fail to confuse you during the first hour of using the pad.

- Eye-catching lenticular font

- Custom back buttons programmed quickly

- Excellent autonomy

- Eliminate a little too much "plastic".

- Annoying layout of function keys

- No vibration
